The Actress Says Discussing Donald Trump Would ‘Intensify Divisions’ That’s Ripping the Country Apart

Lawrence has expressed that she believes it's no longer fitting to speak out countering the Trump government, fearing it could intensify unhelpful debate and deepen rifts within the nation.

‘I Question the Usefulness’, Notes Jennifer Lawrence

Speaking with media, the Oscar winner shared, “When Trump was first in office, I felt like I was moving hastily without clear direction. But it’s become clear, through repeated campaigns, Hollywood stars fail to influence at all on voter decisions.”

The actor went on, “What’s the point? I’m just voicing my thoughts on an issue that’s going to worsen tensions that’s ripping the country apart.”

Changing Allegiances

Lawrence has admitted freely about voting for both right and leftwing contenders over the years. Growing up with Republican parents in her home state, she voted for the Republican nominee in 2008 then moving to the Democrats and revealing she understood during Obama’s administration that supporting the GOP was opposing her individual liberties as a woman.

Past Statements

In 2015, she commented that Donald Trump’s election would be “the end of the world” and backed Joe Biden in the 2020 election. During the most recent election, she lent her support to the Democratic nominee, “as I think she’s an amazing candidate and I know that she will do whatever she can to defend abortion access.”

Hollywood’s Stance

Lawrence was joined by most of Hollywood in her rejection of Donald Trump as a candidate for re-election, but the limited influence public figures have over the public choices was underscored by Trump’s victory.

“This upcoming term feels different,” commented the actress about his leadership. “Since he said what he was going to do. We were aware of his actions for four years. He was very clear. And voters made that decision.”

Latest Film

Jennifer Lawrence is highlighting her new film, director Lynne Ramsay’s movie in which she stars as a recent parent who deals with her emotional state in a remote area. Speaking at a media event for the movie in the film festival, the star commented on the conflict in Gaza: “It’s frightening. It’s devastating. What’s happening is equivalent to a humanitarian crisis and it’s horrible.”

Wider Issues

The actress elaborated by stating that she was disheartened by “the disrespect in the conversations of American politics at present and how that is going to be commonplace to the children now. It’s going to be standard to them that leaders are untruthful.”

The actor sought to redirect outrage about the conflict to decision-makers rather than entertainers. “Concentrate on the people in charge,” she said, which was interpreted as a allusion to the recent commitment signed by thousands of Hollywood professionals to avoid Israeli film institutions.

Relatable Experiences

Jennifer Lawrence, who earned critical acclaim at a young age for her performance in her breakout movie, is generating Oscar buzz for her performance in her latest project. Although the director has rejected the narrative being interpreted as one of maternal mental health issues and psychological distress, Lawrence shared that she identified with aspects of her character’s journey after the arrival of her youngest child, shortly after shooting ended.

“It was fear about my child,” she said, “imagining every worst-case scenario, and then doubting everything that I was trying. I was seeing a therapist, but I started taking a medication called Zurzuvae and I used it for two weeks and it really helped.”

Professional Experiences

Lawrence also mentioned about the empowering aspect of filming without clothes in the project while she was expecting and unable to exercise.

“There’s a freedom,” she said, of being forced to set aside self-consciousness. “Honestly, I sometimes think where I’m like, What separates me between myself and a sex worker? But it isn’t a major concern.”
