Manchester United Set to Secure German Striker Lea Schüller from Bayern Munich
Manchester United are on the verge of completing the signing for prolific German forward Lea Schüller in a permanent move from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.
A Major Signing for the WSL Side
The forward, with six months left on her contract, is known as a consistent goal-getter for her club and the national team. She has netted over 100 goals for the German giants and found the net 54 times in 82 appearances for her country. This signing will be seen as a marquee signing for the WSL team.
Her exit from Bayern has been anticipated after she appeared to be fighting back tears while thanking the club's fans after a victory over Bayer Leverkusen this month.
Reports in late December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was set to lose one of its leading forwards. According to multiple sources, the formalities for the transfer have now been completed.
Consistent Goalscoring to Boost United's Forward Line
The 28-year-old’s signing is expected to provide a significant uplift to United’s attacking options. Schüller has been remarkably reliable with her finishing in the Bundesliga.
- Over seven straight seasons, up to and including the last term, she achieved at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
- She claimed the Golden Boot in 2021-22 season with 16 goals.
Building Momentum at Old Trafford
Securing Schüller’s signature coincides with a period when the club seem to be gathering positive momentum.
Recent performances include qualifying for the European knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.
Off the pitch, the winter break has brought additional business:
- The acquisition of Sweden defender Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
- The new deal for Japanese playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, who has become popular figure since arriving in 2023.
Regarding the midfielder's extension, a club official stated: “She has become a critical component to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and technical ability allows her and the team to control and dictate play from central areas.”
Lundkvist, who has joined from a side from the American league, added: “You can feel how much the club have progressed in the last few years, playing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and performing in the Champions League.”
