Jurgen Klopp admits coming back to coach Liverpool is theoretically possible.
Jurgen Klopp, who left Anfield in 2024, has suggested that a future comeback is a possibility. Klopp, after a transformative near-decade reign featuring a European Cup triumph and ending the club's long wait for three decades, has since taken on positions in a global football capacity for Red Bull and providing guidance to Germany's league body.
Supporters’ Hopes and Klopp’s Candid Remarks
They secured the Premier League under Arne Slot, yet numerous supporters who revere Klopp would embrace the notion of his potential comeback. In a wide-ranging interview, he explained to his interviewer: “I declared I will never coach a different club within the country. So that means in case it's my former club...yes. It's plausible.”
“I’m 58, that means the choice could be mine in a few years, who knows. Must I choose now? If so, I wouldn't return. But thank God, I don’t have to do that. I'll simply watch what lies ahead.”
Conditions for a Comeback
When asked about the specific conditions must arise to tempt his return to the touchline, he confessed he was not instantly drawn to such a return. “It's unclear to me, My present work fulfills me,” he stated. “No longing for management; I avoid standing during downpours for lengthy sessions; No need for press conferences repeatedly each week or doing numerous chats each week.
“The locker room isn't missed per se, but sitting in a restaurant with the team having a nice chat, is pleasant. Success was frequent meaning regularly a very good mood in the building. I still have the captain's chuckle vividly recalled for example.”
Praise for His Successor
Klopp was full of praise regarding Arne Slot, acknowledging his role due to the changes that won the league in the previous season. They've been defeated four in a row in all competitions following significant transfers, but he rubbished the suggestion it could be a decline.
“[Liverpool have] an incredible striker like Florian Wirtz, critics will regret if spoken against. An outstanding player. [Hugo] Ekitike, incredible player. It’s a really good thoughtfully assembled roster. You don’t have to worry over the club, things will improve.”
Heartfelt Words for the Late Forward
Klopp also spoke emotionally on the loss of Jota, a player he signed while in charge, and its impact for the team. The forward died tragically in a vehicle collision alongside his brother recently.
“Can you substitute a person like him? It goes beyond his on-field talent, his personality mattered. It's hard to picture the team environment absent his presence. I find it difficult to discuss about it. A profound tragedy for all the boys also. Not a single person might employ it as an excuse though it's a fact. You walk in a dressing room which he filled completely. Handling this individually is difficult. Overwhelming.”
