Homages Pour In for the Reiners as Autopsy Reports Are Sealed.
Well beyond 14 days subsequent to the heartbreaking passing of celebrated filmmaker Rob Reiner and his wife, photographer Michele Reiner, friends and colleagues persist in remembering the duo.
A Heartfelt Farewell: Cary Elwes Pays Tribute to His Director
Writing on Instagram, actor Cary Elwes, who was featured in Reiner's beloved 1987 film *The Princess Bride*, stated he only now felt able to express about his profound loss.
"Adequate time has gone by that I can finally express my sorrow into words," wrote Elwes, noting that his initial encounter with Reiner left him smitten. "When we commenced sharing more moments together I understood this was someone I desired in my life."
The actor posted behind-the-scenes footage from the film, remarking that he doesn't recollect "any day without laughter".
"This story is about love, loyalty and sacrifice. Values that Rob held dear. That is part of the many reasons he was the ideal person to guide it," Elwes continued.
He went on to praise Michele Reiner, stating: "Asserting that they were a formidable pair would be an oversimplification. My heart still hurts every time I think of you." He finished with a quote from *The Princess Bride*: "Indeed, death cannot stop true love but living is anguish without you."
Martin Scorsese Reflects on a Fellow Artist
In a different piece, acclaimed director Martin Scorsese paid homage to Reiner, whom he initially encountered in the 1970s.
"Immediately, I loved hanging out with Rob. We had a natural affinity for each other. He was hilarious and sometimes bitingly funny, but he was never the kind of guy who would take over the room," Scorsese wrote.
Scorsese mentioned Reiner's cameo appearance in his 2013 film *The Wolf of Wall Street*, embodying the father of the protagonist.
"He could improvise with the best. He was a virtuoso at comedy, he worked wonderfully with everyone, and he understood the emotional dilemma of his character," Scorsese wrote.
Legal Developments: Autopsy Reports Withheld
In a new development, a Los Angeles court official ruled to bar the publication of the Reiners' medical examiner's reports, after an appeal from the local authorities.
A judicial mandate issued a restriction on the files to limit the public release of "related notes, evidence and photographs" associated with the probe.
The relevant authority had previously confirmed their deaths were the result of murder, with a public database listing the cause as "multiple sharp force injuries".
Fallout and Commentary
In the wake of the killings, public personalities expressed divergent responses.
Ex-President Donald Trump posted on the matter, providing controversial statements that were broadly criticized by numerous individuals.
Podcaster Joe Rogan lent his perspective to the those speaking out recently. Talking on his program, Rogan characterized the remarks as "shocking" and suggested they revealed a worrisome lack of empathy.
Rogan ended by proposing that an adviser could have stepped in when the impulse to comment on the death was made.
