Chiefs Acknowledge Alleged Abuse Claims Connected to Player the Athlete
The Kansas City Chiefs released a comment Wednesday night indicating they are aware of domestic violence allegations circulated in social media posts by a former girlfriend of wide receiver Rashee Rice and had been in contact with the league office.
The organization did not mention Rice specifically in their statement and noted they would have “no further comment at this time”.
Allegations Shared on Social Media
Dacoda Nichole Jones, who also did not mention Rice by name, posted a set of images on social media that seemed to depict indicators of bodily harm. Jones did say the person involved was the parent of her kids, and it is known she has kids with Rice, whom the team selected in the second round.
Official Complaints Reportedly Unavailable
No police reports were on file in the Kansas City suburb where the incident is said to have occurred.
Rice's Prior Legal Issues
Rice missed the first six games of this season following an league-mandated ban for his role in instigating a multi-vehicle accident on a Texas roadway that left multiple people hurt. He was sentenced 30 days in jail and five years’ probation after entering a guilty plea to serious offenses.
On the field, he finished the year with 53 catches for 571 yards and five TDs as the Kansas City finished 6-11 and missed the playoffs for the first time in a decade.
