Plant-Based Cooking in the Algarve

This sun-drenched cooking retreat, located at a villa by the river in the inland Algarve, is inspired by the vegetarian dishes of renowned chefs. Guests will learn to produce meze spreads, attend a falafel-making workshop, perfect mid-morning meals such as shakshuka, and make substantial main courses such as spicy mushroom ragu and moussaka. The schedule includes trips to the village market and a local vineyard to sample Portuguese wines, combined with leisure time for strolls by the Funcho River, to unwind on the terrace or swim in the pool. St Ives is the excellent location for a maritime music retreat. Participants will be taught traditional shanties from a experienced musician, and have a go at composing original ones. There will be voice exercises, breath control techniques, stagecraft advice and a closing performance. The retreat is held in a country house with views of St Ives Bay. All meals are provided, including a Cornish cream tea on the first day, breakfast options, packed lunches and three-course dinners. Grog, alas, is not provided. Author and tutor an experienced instructor leads the daily workshops on this authors' getaway. He covers everything from story structure, character development, locations and tension, to sending manuscripts to agents.
